Westbury Lions Respond To Philippines Relief Effort

Amid the reports of the growing devastation in the Philippines, Lions Clubs International has mobilised over £300,000 in aid from Lions Clubs around the world via its International Foundation.

This money is distributed to Lions Clubs in the area, to utilise and distribute in the best way possible for people on the ground in the affected regions.  More than 12,000 Lions members in the Philippines will work with government officials and other agencies to send food, water and other supplies to the disaster area, with local support operations for Lions being based in Cebu.

Locally, Westbury Lions Filipino born member Leny Davies, has been at the forefront of efforts to send support, by collecting resources to create aid packages which will be shipped to the region.  She regularly sends packages to the area, and in light of recent events has been able to use her shipping connections to create a dedicated container of aid to go from Westbury.  She is appealing for tinned foods, clothes (no winter coats/jackets), medicines and any non-perishable goods.

Anybody wishing to donate items can get in touch with Leny on 07857 755409 to arrange to drop them off to her at her address in Westbury – 33 Shire way, Westbury BA13 3GF.

Westbury Lions Welfare Chairperson Doreen Pearce will be holding a cakes and coffee morning in aid of the LCIF relief fund on the 22nd November, at her home 33 Newtown, Westbury.  Open to all from 10am to 1pm. Visitors may also bring contributions that can be passed on to Leny.
