Lions quiz team roars to success!

In a splendidly entertaining quiz evening organised by Cancer Research UK volunteer fund raisers the team representing the Westbury Lions roared to success in only their second ever competition.

Around fourteen teams competed for a generous cash prize in a challenging and high quality competition. The Lions team of Veronyca Bates, Phil Harris, John Powell and Horace Prickett emerged clear winners in spite of facing some seasoned opposition.

The quiz was well structured with questions ranging cleverly from the easier for the beginners to the more difficult for those who are regular competitors. In spite of their lack of experience the Lions scored heavily throughout at one time getting the first 39 questions correct before dropping the last point before the break when thirst for a reviving glass of red wine had become an insurmountable distraction.

Team captain John Powell had only praise for the organisers, the quiz master and the Conservative Club hosts whose membership and staff were tremendously welcoming in spite of the obvious disruption to their routine. He noted that “A delightful evening was topped off superbly by a very satisfying win against some very talented teams. It was a pleasure to enjoy the company of all concerned and we will be looking to return to the Conservative Club at the earliest opportunity. Their facilities and welcome were first class.”

The Lions team now have an appetite for testing themselves again after tasting success for their first time!
