40th Westbury Lions Club Charter – 18th May 2013
Our 40th Charter Anniversary was a wonderful evening shared with over 80 guests at the Conference Centre in Standerwick.
The evening was themed ‘The 1940s’, and a great selection of styles and costumes were on display for all to enjoy with some making a great deal of effort towards that authentic look. Following a superb meal, Lion John Drago ably performed the duty of Toastmaster for the gathered guests, in his fetching Beefeater costume!
Guests this year included District Governor Lion Roger Munday and his wife Lion Christine Munday, Westbury Mayor David Windess and his wife Trudy and also Westbury Rotary President Susan Hill-Bird and her partner Mike Dawson.
We were particularly lucky to be joined by 2 original Charter members of Westbury Lions Club at this years event, Stan Flukes and his wife Pat, and Claude Kelly with his wife Marianne (who the special trip from Spain to attend the evening!) which made this anniversary special for all.
The evening was also attended by members of Trowbridge, Bradford, Warminster, GMS, Fleet, Heart, Newbury, Lymington and Salisbury Lions Clubs, and also cadets and representatives of Westbury ATC, who continue to fulfil a great role of support to Westbury Lions Club in its activities.
Once the toasts were delivered and speeches completed, guests were invited to take part in a ‘Paper Aeroplane Competition’to see who could fly their creation the furthest, before ending the evening dancing to hits both from the 1940s and modern day ably performed by ‘Us Two’, husband and wife musicians Angie and Rob Fawcett.
Next years charter has already been booked, so make a date in your diaries for 7th June 2014!
